2024 APL Million - Series Wrap Up
News Banner

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Hear from Joel Williams, the Head of APL Poker -ย

Now that the final 2024 APL Million card has been dealt, I have the opportunity to review and reflect on the phenomenal records which have been set and those that have been broken.

In a series which has shattered all previous records, it is hard to decide which metric is more impressive. While we can talk in superlatives letโ€™s review like a true poker player and take a look at the numbers

The Main Event attracted 3,160 entries, creating a $4,108,000ย prize pool that eclipsed all records to become the largest tournament ever staged in Australia (again).

The Centurion saw 558 entries and a $1,255,500 prize pool while the Jackstar hosted 999 entries, creating a $1,298,700 prize pool both exceeding all expectations.

Letโ€™s not forget to mention the $5K High Roller Shot Clock Challenge with 237 entries and a $1,113,900 prize pool which saw this series host FOUR >$1Million prize pool events!

Over 18 days an incredible 26,000 players found their way to the felt. I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your support and continued loyalty.

Whatever the specific statistic that is most impressive, the 2024 APL Million can only be described with one simple word โ€“ massive.

On behalf of all at APL, Iโ€™d like to thank everyone involved (on both sides of the felt) for their efforts, encouragement, enthusiasm, professionalism, and loyalty โ€“ you have all become part of Australian poker history.

Melbourne's Amin Riyazati has placed first in what is officially the largest live poker tournament field in Australian history.

Across ten Day 1 flights and three progressive days thereafter, Amin is the last one standing from 3,160 entries.

The Melburnian faced a barrage of all-ins from heads-up opponent Hai Kee, and eventually found the spot to call with Ace-Ten. Faced against Hai's 8-6, the board ran clean to leave Amin in utter disbelief.

Sheer elation, joy, and relief were evident in his reaction. Since turning pro last year, Amin has found numerous deep runs, five-figure scores, and trophies, but has continually sought "the big one".

If this isn't it, then nothing is.

In future APL Million series, the Southport Sharks ceiling will play host to a drop-down banner bearing the likeness and name of Amin Riyazati, as he now joins the Hall of Fame.

The first-place prize of $706,500 comes from a total pool of over $4.1 million, with the series growing with each successive edition.

Four events saw prize pools of more than one million dollars, with more than $13,100,000 throughout the past 18 days.

Players of all skill levels and buy-in ranges were able to participate in the series, with the APL-funded $100,000 Player of the Series Promotion proving a resounding success.

The question now looms: how big will the 2025 APL Million Main Event be? With more than 1,100 satellite entries generated across the APL network in the past twelve months, this is truly the premier poker event in the country.
