Poker Returns to Tasmania: Australian Poker League Brings Back the Excitement

Poker enthusiasts in Tasmania have reason to celebrate as the Australian Poker League (APL) announces the return of social poker tournaments to the state. Following recent changes in regulations by the Tasmanian government, APL is set to revive the poker scene with a series of exciting events and opportunities for players.

New Rules, New Opportunities

Under the updated regulations, which took effect recently, "genuine" social poker games are now permitted within a tournament structure on licensed premises. Finance Minister Nic Street emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring Tasmanians can enjoy social poker tournaments without wagering and with low entry fees.

Key points of the new regulations include:

  • A capped $250 entry fee with no additional charges during tournaments
  • Equal re-entry fees and distribution of poker chips
  • Chips have no monetary value and are used solely to determine winners
  • At least 70% of total entry fees must be allocated to prizes
